New vehicle importation follow many of the same rules as a used vehicle since once a vehicle is registered in the U.S. prior to importation,  the vehicle is considered to be a used vehicle by Transport Canada and can qualify under the RIV regulations.

The major impediment for importing a new car or truck from the U.S. are the rules that the vehicle manufacturers themselves impose on their U.S. authorized dealers.  These rules state that these dealers are forbidden from selling directly to non-U.S. residents for export.
